Welcome to The Southern Rock Hall of Fame!
At last! The official Southern Rock Hall of Fame has been established! After years of planning, we have established a Hall of Fame designed to pay tribute to all of the great Southern Rock bands and artists of our lives, including the best known groups like The Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd, the lesser known yet equally great bands such as Grinderswitch, Cowboy and Stillwater, and the many Southern bands that may not fall under the umbrella of the genre known as "Southern Rock," but are greatly important bands with roots in the south, like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Gram Parsons, REM and Widespread Panic. We will also celebrate the roots of Southern music including blues and country, folks like Otis Redding, Hank Williams, Blind Willie McTell, BB King, Little Richard and Elvis Presley.
THE CLASS OF 2018 HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED: VISIT THEM HERE
The Southern Rock Hall of Fame & Museum is an online resource for information on the many great bands and artists from the south. Each year, members will vote on artists to be inducted into the Hall for that year. We still maintain high hopes for a museum someday that will celebrate all of these artists!
The initial idea for The Southern Rock Hall of Fame & Museum can be traced back to 1982, when Michael Buffalo Smith first began taking notes and making plans to see his dream come to life. Beginning in the late ‘80s, Smith set about interviewing and recording conversations with hundreds of stars of the genre, and in 1998, he founded Gritz Magazine, featuring many of these interviews, before changing over to the e-magazine, KUDZOO in 2011. Smith has since published seven books on the subject of Southern Rock, with his three latest books landing on the prestigious Mercer University Press imprint.

Our dream is for a Southern Rock Hall of Fame Museum that will encompass at least 18,000 square feet of display space, and will be architecturally significant. Spacious and inclusive, warm and inviting, the design will center around numerous gallery spaces of interactive exhibitions that will cover all aspects of Southern Rock’s musical history. There will be permanent exhibits as well as special temporary displays that rotate in and out. The Southern Rock Hall of Fame & Museum will include an indoor venue to present intimate musical performances, and plans to work with local venues to present full scale shows.
In this facility, The SRHOF will be able to present and share an impressive collection of recordings, photographs, interviews, and other artifacts pertaining to the heritage and roots of Southern Rock and Southern Roots music. Innovative cataloging and management systems implemented in the new space will also facilitate the use of the collections within the Museum, by scholars; the public, and other interested organizations.
